Here’s an effective way to draw positive attention to your brand and maintain a sense of humour, as shown by @smartcarusa.
Smart cars have never traditionally received the best press, and Twitter user Clayton Hove couldn’t resist a sly dig at the company’s supposedly brittle exterior.
Presumably not expecting any response in particular – a quick look on his page shows his tweets are frequent and far reaching at a variety of targets – Hove would have been surprised at the detailed reply he got from Smart:

Therefore, given the statistic that the Smart Tridion’s safety cell can withstand 9,000lbs of pressure, they came up with this handy infographic – although to call it an infographic may be stretching it a little – assessing what that would translate to for a variety of avian excreta.

And just in case anyone was taking this ultra seriously, the infographic closes with the disclaimer “Figures are estimated and may not be exact. But they’re not totally full of crap, either”.
What a party-pooper, to pardon the expression.
Despite that, this is good publicity for a variety of reasons; not only does it show a dedicated one-on-one response, it will also make casual users smile and increase brand engagement at the same time.
And for what it’s worth, the complainant, an advertising agency director, had to admit that Smart had done a good job on his tweet:

Marketing professionals: how do you rate this? Smart Car USA might have shot down one Twitter user, but will they gain more followers and brand interest because of their irreverent approach?
