Hiring a celebrity hasn’t been an uncommon habit for tech companies looking to get a push on their rivals with a latest release; and Lenovo is no different, signing up Ashton Kutcher as a product engineer at the hardware manufacturer.
Kutcher joins a stellar cast of celebs who have been taken on by tech companies, including Alicia Keys, Will.i.am, and Lady Gaga.
Those three pop stars of course represented BlackBerry, Intel and Polaroid respectively. Yet according to Kutcher, the partnership with Lenovo brings together a “love of technology and design that makes your life better.”
And the news comes at the same time the manufacturer is launching its Yoga Android-powered tablet.
David Roman, Lenovo chief marketing officer, said in a statement: “Ashton Kutcher’s authentic, creative appetite for technology and keen consumer insight combined with our innovation engine make this a very natural and powerful partnership.”
All well and good, but Kutcher of course has been more than linked with another certain tablet manufacturer in recent months, having played the title character in the film Jobs.
The film hasn’t garnered a stellar critical reception, with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak one of the critics despite saying he was “so hopeful” for the film to be a success.
Wozniak told the audience at Apps World Europe last week: “It was just going to be a bad movie,” adding: “I went and watched it the night it opened and it was very false of what Steve Jobs was like in those early days.”
Kutcher’s role will include “challenging assumptions, bringing new perspective and contributing his technical expertise to Yoga Tablet and other devices,” according to a press release.
