HMV tweets their own sacking

In the UK, the social media team at HMV today gave Deloitte, who’d been appointed to deal with the administration of the company, a lesson in crisis management when they live tweeted their own sacking (click to enlarge image).

At just past 13.25 HMV’s official and verified Twitter account sent out the following tweet: “We’re tweeting live from HR where we’re all being fired! Exciting!!

Ryder Cup sky tweets: How Paddy Power ambushed #TeamUS at Medinah

Irish bookmaker Paddy Power posted the world's first ‘sky tweets’ in a guerrilla campaign designed to share messages of support to #TeamEurope golfers who were competing in the 2012 Ryder Cup at the Medina Country Club in Illinois.

The bookmaker hired 5 stunt planes to fly at 10,000ft above the course to tweet up to 60 specially selected messages - some in support of the European golfers, while others just taunting their American counterparts.

Reputation analysis: UK operator O2's mobile network crash

UK mobile network O2 was yesterday battling to restore services to its customers nationwide after a massive outage.  The issues began Wednesday lunchtime with many users reporting that they were unable to make calls or use data services on their smartphones.  Subscribers to Tesco Mobile and GiffGaff services, which use the O2 network, were also affected, although O2 said that the issues were not geographical.

#Londonriots – Fuelled By Mobile, Not Social Media

Social media sites Facebook and twitter were blamed today by Government and Metropolitan Police spokespeople for fanning the UK #Londonriots and looting over the weekend.  Fingers were pointed at these social networking sites for the fact that they enable people to send out calls for people to gather together.

The disturbances happened after the fatal shooting of Tottenham father of four Mark Duggan who was allegedly killed in a minicab on Thursday by police firearm officers.
