On Site SEO First, Links Second

An SEO campaign can be separated into two parts, on-site and link building. On-site optimization involves making changes to your website to be found by the search engines and link building is an ongoing campaign to increase a website and company brand visibility in the search engines and online in general. People without proper SEO knowledge think that it’s all one in the same and should all begin together. That is the wrong approach. On-site optimization is phase one and should be done first. A...

Responsive Web Design

Over the last two years, the rise of mobile/smartphones and tablet devices offering 3G and WiFi internet browsing has changed the way that we use the internet on a daily basis. New televisions and gaming consoles also offer web browsing, pushing the web away from a previous “desktop only” experience, to one that is with us now at home, the office, or on the move.

How To Disable Facebook’s Facial Recognition Feature

Facebook’s been at it again, adding little features without telling us. The latest feature is facial recognition, whereby Facebook automatically identifies and tags people in photos that are uploaded to the social network’s servers.

If a friend tags you in a photo, the facial recognition feature will scan your face and try to find matches in all of that friend’s photos. It will then suggest that you get tagged in all of these photos as well.

How much are big brands spending on online advertising?

We do love a good infographic here at iMod don’t we? Well, this one I think is good because everyone knows that online advertising has grown in leaps and bounds, but sometimes it’s hard to know just how much some of the brands are actually spending, and I think this might shock you a bit.

Does your company spend a lot of money on online advertising? If so, why not share with us how you go about deciding what to spend and what return on investment you’re getting? You don’t have to be...

Branded Domain Name Suffixes to Be Allowed

Just this week, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (Icann), announced that they would allow web address names to end with almost any word in any language. Right now, most people recognize the typical web addresses like .com, .org, .net and .edu, among others. This radical development in generic top-level domains (gTLDs) means that domains can now end in a branded suffix. Camera giant Canon has already publicly stated that they attend to apply for “.canon”.

According to digital brand consultancy...

5 Awesome & Inspiring Facebook Pages

I’ve spent a good amount of time reading up on Facebook Pages the last few weeks and I’ve come across some that I think are really great. Each of them has a reason for being great, but I’m not going to spoil it for you, so instead I’ll give you a quick look at each one and then you can decide if you want to explore further.

These 5 Facebook Pages are unrelated and there’s no common trend between them, expect for the fact that I think they’re highly effective and I think...

Local, Bing Local and Google Places for instance) helps position your business in front of those audiences and increase your online brand presence. These local profiles will rank in the search engines themselves, helping drive traffic through to you main site and increase your conversion rate.

The Importance of the Longtail Keyword

Perhaps the most important part of the research phase of an SEO campaign is the keyword research process. The keywords that are chosen have huge implications on the whole campaign that follows. Some companies or website owners think that they know their target audience well enough to determine the keywords without doing the research. This is a big mistake.

Depending on the industry, it’s very likely that people are searching for your products or services in ways that you hadn’t thought of. The...

Skype has been integrating with Facebook more and more as the months have gone by and they’ve just announced even more integration! This is for Windows only, so Mac users will have to hold on for the time being.

How about a game of Mini Maps?

I love it when brands get deeply engaged with social media, and Mini have managed to do this with the release of their Google Maps mashup game called Mini Maps. The premise is fairly simple, the game allows you to modify your virtual mini and then race against your friends all over the world, whilst tracking things on Google Maps.

The game looks like a lot of fun, so I’ve managed to track down a video for you to take a watch of and decide whether it’s something you’d like to play. What...

FourSquare hits 10 million members in 2 years!

Grief, it always amazes me at how quickly online networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and FourSquare have raced to having memberships of millions of users and in so little time!

FourSquare was created in 2009 by Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai and in just over 2 years they have 10 million users, can you even imagine what that exponential growth must be like?

Get whatever domain name you want!

So some breaking news in the Internet world, where ICANN are opening up the domain naming conventions and allowing people to register with whatever domain extension they want. It’s incredibly expensive and that might prevent the chaos on the net, but I guess we’ll see. Here are two news articles that a mate of mine sent to me earlier.

The regulatory body that oversees Internet domain names voted on Monday to revamp the domain naming system for websites, allowing them to end with words like...
